Roma International Day
On April 8, it is the Roma International Day. The day is celebrated in commemoration of the First International Roma Congress in London 1971, wich marked the beginning of a co-ordinated effort to promote Roma rights at an international level. Minister for Integration, Erik Ullenhag, who also has responsibility for national minorities, sends his greetings to Sweden's Roma population.

Mona Sahlin nominated for the post of new Director-General of the ILO
The Swedish Government has nominated Mona Sahlin as its candidate for the post of Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The nomination is highly welcomed by the Swedish social partners and the Nordic countries.

Introduction of new Act on complementary actors to protect personal privacy of individuals
At present, the Personal Data Act, along with procured agreements, regulate the way complementary actors process data about individuals and companies. The Inquiry into personal data processing in the area of labour market policy and its supervision proposes introducing an Act on complementary actors.

The Government nominates Mona Sahlin to the post of ILO Director-General in Geneva
Sweden has nominated Ms Mona Sahlin as candidate for the post of Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva. Ms Mona Sahlin has been Deputy Prime Minister, leader of the Social Democratic Party and minister in various periods with responsibility for labour market and working life issues, gender equality issues, democracy and integration, small businesses, energy issues and industrial policy.

Minister for Employment Hillevi Engström to visit London
On Friday 9 December, Minister for Employment Hillevi Engström will visit job centres in London. The aim of the visit is to gather information about how the system of private job centres works in the United Kingdom, and to gain an insight into how job centres work with groups that are very much detached from the labour market.
Minister for Employment Hillevi Engström to visit China
On 23-28 October Minister for Employment Hillevi Engström will be visiting China. This trip will be Ms Engström's first visit to China and is taking place at the invitation of China's Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Yin Weimin. The two ministers will meet in Beijing to discuss common challenges in the areas of employment, labour legislation, working environment and CSR. Ms Engström will also visit a number of companies with a Swedish connection, and a public employment service in Shanghai.

A National Knowledge Centre for the Work Environment
The Scientific Advisory Committee for the Work Environment Policy has been submitted their report to Minister for Employment, Hillevi Engström. The Advisory Committee believes there are currently favourable conditions for realizing these national needs. The Swedish government has stressed that the work environment is a national concern through its action plan for the work environment policy, and the worker representatives and employers prioritize work environment issues.
Measures in the budget for employment, growth and welfare
In the Budget Bill for 2012 the Government gives priority to measures to address the slowdown, achieve sustainably higher growth and employment, ensure that everyone shares in welfare and increase the stability of the financial system. A total of SEK 15 billion will be spent in 2012 and SEK 17.3 billion in 2013.
Complementary actors improves services provided by the Public Employment Service
"The use of complementary actors reflects an ambition to enlarge and diversify the range of services that are offered by the Public Employment Service. The Government believes that this will improve the average quality of the services provided, and thereby contribute to improving matching in the labour market."
