Carl Bildt

Minister for Foreign Affairs

"The aim of Sweden's foreign policy is to contribute to freedom, peace and reconciliation both in our own region and in other parts of the world. Sweden's foreign policy proceeds clearly from the values on which our own society is built and from our own interests."

Freedom on the Internet

Freedom and security on the Internet are one of the great global challenges of the future. Internet censorship is often a violation of the freedom of expression, which is a fundamental human right. New information technology is also exploited for cyber warfare and cyber espionage, which can threaten the freedom of IT users.

Arctic Council

From 2011 to 2013, Sweden is chairing and leading the work of the Arctic Council. The Council provides the Arctic states with a forum for cooperation on responsible development of the region. The five Nordic countries, Canada, Russia and the United States participate, together with representatives of six Arctic indigenous peoples organisations.
