How to apply to upper secondary school

Do you have a child who is planning to start upper secondary school (gymnasieskola) in Stockholm next autumn? If so, your child needs to submit his or her application before 15 February 2012. The Protocol Department would like to convey to you some pointers and useful links regarding the application process. (Click the link below to get access to the new guidance.)

Do not send passports to the Protocol Department upon notification

As has been announced earlier at the Diplomatic Portal, since May 20, 2011, residence permits stickers affixed into passports have been replaced with a residence permit card.

-This change means that only a copy of the passport needs to be attached to the notication form of a new staff member (not the passport itself).

Request regarding non-diplomatic staff

Enclosed is a request for each foreign mission in Sweden to list the non-diplomatic members, such as administrative/technical staff, service staff and private servants.

Reminder on the procedure for notifying the MFA of a chargé d'affaires a.i.

The Protocol Department wishes to remind Heads of Mission of the following. - When you leave Sweden for a period of time or are unable to perform your functions, a member of the diplomatic staff should be appointed as Chargé d'affaires a.i. The name of the Chargé d'affaires a.i. shall be notified to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Protocol Department, either by the Head of the Mission or, in case he/she is unable to do so, by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the sending State.

Opening hours at the Protocol Department during Christmas holidays

On the day before Christmas Eve (Friday 23 December) and on the Eve of Epiphany (5 January), the Protocol Department will be closed after lunch. On Boxing Day (26 December) and on Epiphany (6 January), the Protocol Department will be closed.

On other working days the Ministry will be open on the ordinary working hours (8.00-16.30). However, starting today the working staff at the Ministry will be reduced in many cases.

Four new ambassadors, from The Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, Jamaica and Ethiopia, presented their letters of credence to HM The King on Thursday 8 December 2011.

Road Safety

Sweden's long-term road safety goal is that there should be no fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic. Sweden is among those countries with the lowest number of traffic fatalities in relation to its population.

What can you do to make it as safe as possible to travel by car?

- Use seat belt.
- Keep speed limits.
- Do not use alcohol or other drugs.
- Make sure children are safe in the car.
- Follow the traffic regulations.
- Change to winter tyres.
