Housing policy a higher priority for the Swedish Government
Housing construction has long been neglected in Sweden. For this reason the Swedish Government is now making housing policy a higher priority and taking several initiatives to stimulate and facilitate housing construction so that it reaches a sustainable level.
The Swedish Government has recently taken initiatives and will continue to do so in 2012. These include:
-
a survey of special municipal requirements in connection with construction and an analysis of the effects special requirements have on construction costs and construction;
- changes to create clear, effective and transparent legislation for the implementation of municipal detailed development plans; and
- conducting a review on how to best strengthen renting as a form of tenure.
Nordic cooperation initiative
At international level, the Swedish Government has taken the initiative for Nordic cooperation to address border problems in the area of construction. A first Nordic cooperation meeting was held in November 2011 in Stockholm.
