Sweden takes over Presidency of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS
In 2012, Sweden will lead the work of the joint Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Spearheading the assignment is Sweden's Ambassador to the UN Mårten Grunditz, who was elected as the new President of the joint Executive Board of the three UN bodies on 9 January.
Sweden has long been one of the largest donors to UNDP and UNFPA, which work on aid policy issues highly prioritised by the Government. These include democratic governance, poverty reduction, sustainable development, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as crisis prevention and recovery.
The Presidency rotates annually between the five regional groups of the Executive Board, which comprise a total of 36 member states.
