New governing board for Sida

As a further part of strengthening the way in which the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) is managed, the Government has appointed a governing board.

This will replace the Advisory Council.

"Sida has key responsibility for implementing Government policy in the area of development assistance. I am therefore very pleased today to be able to present a governing board that will play a decisive role in efforts to further strengthen Sida's work to deliver effective and results-oriented development assistance," says Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson.

The composition of the governing board reflects the need for support in the organisational, operational and financial challenges the agency faces. It will ensure internal management and control, and necessary organisational changes to better balance its finances. The aim is to strengthen Sida's capacity to carry out its remit with a view to the Government's priorities and development assistance objectives.

Sida previously had an Advisory Council, the tasks of which included ensuring democratic insight into Sida's activities. This Advisory Council will now be replaced. For this reason, Sida's leadership will regularly invite members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs to give the Riksdag insight into its activities.
